Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, to Venice and the Maratona

Thursday 17 June

Fly to Klagenfurt Villach, Austria (50 minute taxi to the hotel) or Ljubljana, Slovenia (70 minute taxi). We will transfer your bikes and bags and meet you at the hotel.

Friday 18 June — Day 1

Ride over the Vrsic Pass and down the Soca Gorge into Italy.

Saturday 19 June — Day 2

Ride Buttria to Venice.

RideWithGPS route — 134.5 km / 345 m

Hotel — Hotel Plaza Venice

Take the 10 minute train into Venice and spend the afternoon and evening and dine in Venice. Take the water taxi to Marco Polo, hire a car and drive to the hotel.

Sunday 20 June — Day 3

Morning: drive to the hotel (3 hours), Savoy Dolomites in Selva di Val Gardena (4 km to the ride and 20 km to Corvara).

Afternoon: Ride Maratona 1 — Passo Campolongo, Passo Pordoi, Passo Sella and Passo Gardena.

Monday 21 June — Day 4

Ride Maratona 2 — Passo Campolongo, Passo Giau and Passo Valparola.

RideWithGPS route — 83.2 km / 2,559 m

or shorter route — 51.3 km / 1,383 m (leaving out the Giau)

Tuesday 22 June

You drive back to Marco Polo to fly home. Mike and I drive the van home with your bags and bikes.

  • The usual vehicle support with bike and bag transfer, mechanic and physio/medic support.
  • Nutrition and hydration: bananas, electrolyte, sweets, bars, gels, cheese, ham and tomato baguettes, and ice cold drinks for lunch.
  • Bike and bag transfer to Slovenia and back included.
  • 5 nights’ 4★ accommodation with breakfast and city taxes at superb/excellent rated hotels.
  • Flights and dinners, taxis and car hire not included.

Maratona 1 and Maratona 2 combined are the two laps of the Maratona.

Passo Gardena (5.8 km, average 4.3%, climb 250 m), Passo Sella (5.5 km, average 7.9%, climb 436 m), Passo Pordoi (9.2 km, average 6.9%, climb 638 m) and Passo Campolongo (5.8 km, average 6.1%, climb 353 m).

Passo Valparola (11.5 km, average 5.8%, climb 665 m), Mur di Gait, Passo Giau (9.9 km, average 9.3%, climb 922 m).

The Maratona race takes place two weeks later, on 4 July.
